50th Anniversary Report

BPW Tamaki celebrated their 50th Anniversary on Wednesday 1th October 2017 at which 55 members, former members, partners, BPWNZ President Hellen Swales, BPWNZ 1st Vice President Janet Gibb, BPW NZ IPP Vicky Mee, BPWNZ IT Lorraine Cameron, BPWNZ PA Jenny Britain,

BPW Members from Franklin, Kaitaia, the former BPW clubs of Auckland and Hibiscus Coast attended. Also attending was Christine King from Pacific Women’s Watch, Carol Beaumont, former MP, President of Auckland NCW and former members of BPW Tamaki and many more friends.

We were fortunate that the Waipuna Hotel and Conference centre gave us the Promenade room and the Promenade Bar for our meeting. Drinks were served in the bar before dinner and at 6.30 President Moira Mclean welcomed all to come into the Promenade room which was decorated with black and gold balloons, thanks to Yvonne Copland BPW Hibiscus Coast for the flower corsages which were given to members and former members and some of the dignitaries a beautiful keepsake

We all retired to the dining room for a 5 course dinner. Dame Silvia, Moira McLean President and Joan Bielby, Founder Member cut the Anniversary Cake. This was followed by two toasts to BPW Tamaki proposed by President BPWNZ Hellen Swales and replied to by President Moira Mclean and a toast to BPWNZ proposed by Lorraine Cameron BPWNZ IT and a Past President of BPW Tamaki and replied to by Janet Gibb 1 Our Guest speaker Dame Silvia Cartwright, former Governor General, spoke on “A Reflection on 50 years of Working for Women” Dame Silvia gave an interesting, informative, sensitive and at times amusing speech about her experiences and how she saw the last 50 years in relationship

President Moira McLean thanked Dame Silvia and gave her a small gift. This was followed by reminisces from Joan Bielby a founding member and then others from former Presidents and members and current members. Whilst this was happening the cake wa The programme for the evening contained the minutes of the first meeting on October 28 Hall with 85 women in attendance and also a list of Presidents of BPW Tamaki. Closing remarks were given by 1st VP BPW Tamaki Cathe Submitted by: Joan Bielby QSO JP, Secretary BPW Tamaki, Founder Member, Past President, Life Member, BPWNZ Past President/Life Member.  BPW Tamaki proposed by President BPWNZ Hellen Swales and replied to by President Moira Mclean and a toast to BPWNZ proposed by Lorraine Cameron BPWNZ IT and a Past President of Silvia Cartwright, former Governor General, spoke on “A Reflection on 50 years of Working for Women” Dame Silvia gave an interesting, informative, sensitive and at times amusing speech about her This was followed by reminisces from Joan Bielby a founding member and then others from former Presidents and 1967 at St Mathias Church
